Stuck for a wedding colour? How about the ‘official’ colour of 2013: Emerald Green?

The wedding colours you choose will set the tone for your big day but if you’re feeling baffled for inspiration why not get ahead of the game and take the lead from Pantone (the global authority on colour) who advise the world’s artists, designers and stylists on their seasonal colour palettes. And according to them, the colour of the year for 2013 is emerald green.

But don’t panic, it’s not the kind of green that’s going to make your guests feel like they’re at a tacky St. Paddy’s Day shindig; you’ll be pleased to know that emerald green is one of the more sophisticated greens in the palette. It’s beautifully light and bright with a faint bluish cast and is often said to represent growth, renewal and prosperity enhancing our sense of well-being and harmony. In fact it’s sometimes referred to as “the stone of successful love” and giving someone an emerald is said to be a sign of faith, fidelity and true love. Another reason why it could be the perfect choice for your special day.

There are lots of ways to weave this lush and lively hue into your wedding colour scheme although it’s best to stick to the careful coordination of accents and features throughout rather than being too overwhelming with large splashes of green in fabric and decorations. After all you don’t want your guests to feel like they’re in a scene from the Wizard of Oz.

To give you some ideas we’ve come up with a few elegant and stylish ways to incorporate the colour of the year into your wedding celebration, from the vases on the tables to the clip in the bride’s hair to the colour of the groom’s bowtie to the flowers in the bridesmaid’s bouquets.

Starting with the most important person, the bride. Emerald green accessories are perfect for the bride’s big day as not only is the stone considered to be calming and invigorating, it also adds sparkle. We love Swarovski’s puzzle emerald earrings (www.swarovski.com) and this pretty vintage style hair comb from Etsy (www.etsy.com). And no bride would be complete without her dancing shoes; these sophisticated Yves Saint Laurent Tribtoo suede pumps (www.net-a-porter.com) add timeless glamour to whatever style of dress you’ve chosen. But let’s not forget our groom, if the bride’s having her moment to shine then so should he; this vivacious emerald green metallic bowtie should do the trick (www.ties.uk.com).

The bridesmaid’s dresses are the time to really showcase this classy and energetic shade of green, our favourite is this super flattering, elegant and contemporary full length gown with pleated midriff at the natural waist and a cascading ruffle at front skirt from the Dessy After Six collection (www.dessy.com).

If the bridesmaids are in emerald green dresses then keep the bouquets simple, a hand-tied emerald satin ribbon and silver thin ribbon overlay with ivory roses and some foliage on the outside is a tasteful way to go. For the bride maybe add some aspidistra leaves around the outside and place ruscus leaves between the flowers, you could also add diamantes to some of the roses for added sparkle.

Best to exercise restraint in the table décor by keeping it fresh and adorning each table with luxuriant colour pops rather than making it over-dramatic with too much colour. This chic glass, Brukbar from Ikea is ideal; sing a few glasses as vases together with some flowers like gypsophila or perhaps a couple of green tea coloured roses alongside these Iittalya candle holders (www.ariashop.co.uk) creates a modest yet elegant centre piece. For a touch of extravagance we love these Prestat Organic Dark Chocolate Mint Wafers (www.prestat.com.uk) as favours, a final classy touch to what will be a truly memorable celebration.
