BAHAMAS 16 ISLANDS WEDDING INVITATION

Last year The Bahamas Tourist office in the UK made an irresistible romantic proposal, to invite 16 engaged couples to get married simultaneously across the 16 main Islands of the Bahamas. Each Island offered a unique way to say “I do”. On the 16th of May 2012, each of these lucky couple’s dream weddings became a reality. They secured this opportunity of a lifetime by responding to the wedding invitation and uploading a video or sending a picture with 50 words explaining which Island wedding they would prefer to win and why. More than 250 entries were received, thousands of votes were cast and 16 couples were finally picked. One of the 16 weddings was chosen by the public vote, and the rest of the winning 16 entries were chosen by a judging panel comprising Miranda Eason, Editor of You & Your Wedding magazine, Pippa Jacks of Travel Trade Gazette, and Tommy Thompson, Deputy Director General, Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

As well as winning a personally tailored Bahamian island ceremony(sponsored by travel specialist Kuoni and leading UK jewellers Goldsmiths) each couple got to choose wedding rings up to the value of £500 courtesy of Goldsmiths and the lucky bride got to choose a designer bridal gown from the Tia range by Benjamin Roberts. Local partners were also found on each of the 16 islands to provide accommodation, wedding planning and videography for each individual wedding.

Sixteen different wedding packages were put together, ranging from beautifully simple and romantic beach ceremonies to some unusual and adventurous events - a destination wedding with a difference!
Over the next 16 days, we will share with you each of these truly unique and romantic weddings. Starting tomorrow with Sarah Wassell and Colin Beechey of Blackpool with their “tropical dream” wedding on Long Island, the Bahamas.
